SHARJAH // Inspectors from the Sharjah Municipality will visit restaurants to ensure health and safety rules are being followed during Ramadan.
Riyadh Abdullah bin Al Ayan, the deputy director of the municipality, said the campaign would involve inspections of all food outlets, and those found to be in breach of hygiene or other food-safety rules would be fined up to Dh1,000, or even closed down.
Inspectors will check to ensure food is cooked and stored at safe temperatures to prevent cases of food poisoning, numbers of which increase in the summer months.
Mr Al Ayan also urged the public to call the municipality's toll-free number, 993, if they suspect any infringements at restaurants in their neighbourhoods.
