Children under 15 will no longer need their own passport to apply for an ID card, the Emirates Identity Authority said yesterday, if they belong to countries that do not issue separate passports to youths younger than that age. The children must be on a parent's passport.

The registration deadline is September 30 and the new rule will be in effect from Sunday.

The change came after requests by residents to the authority.
