Motorists will be able to try out Adnoc Distribution’s premium service for free at about 40 stations in Abu Dhabi until June 28.

Last month, Adnoc Distribution revealed its plans for self-service and premium lanes, whereby drivers would pay a small fee to have an attendant to fill up their cars.
It is still not clear how much the premium service will cost but people with special needs and the elderly are exempt.

Now the trial is being extended until the end of next month.

The new service is called Adnoc Flex and will grow to include “MyStation”, where customers can have fuel or LPG cylinders delivered to their home by a mobile fuel truck.

A third of drivers opted to pump their own petrol during part of the trial. Adnoc Distribution late last month said 157,000 motorists passed through 40 of its petrol stations since April 18.

Of those, 69 per cent of customers chose the premium service that's currently free and 31 per cent choose to fill their own that will remain free after the trial is over, it said.

An earlier survey by The National found about 80 per cent said they would rather fill their own than pay an attendant.
