SHARJAH // Emirati jobseekers flocked to the 17th National Careers Exhibition at the Sharjah Expo Centre with the hope of finding a new career.
More than 100 institutions from the public and private sector, including banks, the Armed Forces and Sharjah government’s human resources department, took part in the event offering a range of opportunities to prospective employees.
Sheikh Mohammed Al Nuaimi, executive vice-president of United Arab Bank, said more than 45 per cent of staff were Emirati, with the bank looking to hire more nationals through the event.
“We are thrilled to once again participate in and support the National Careers Exhibition, a valuable initiative to help and encourage young Emirati nationals to make the most of their talent,” said Paul Trowbridge, chief executive of UAB.
Members of the Armed Forces handed out brochures to potential recruits to give them an idea of what a life in uniform serving their country could offer.
Emirati Ahmad Yousef said he hoped to find a job with a bank. “This is the first time I’ve come to careers day,” said the 26-year-old from Dubai. “I hold a BA in management of information systems, I used to work in a private company two years ago and currently I am searching for a new job.”
The careers event is being held in tandem with the International Education Fair, which features higher education institutions from the UAE and overseas offering advice to female students weighing up their options after they graduate from high school.
Manal Zaki, from Sharjah, visited the fair with fellow pupils from her school.
“I came here to check out the universities and the programmes they offer, I hope I can join Zayed University to study business or political science.”
The National Career Exhibition and the International Education Fair both end on Friday.
