DUBAI// A salesman was arrested after being caught on CCTV molesting female shoppers and touching himself, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.
M M, 26, from Egypt claimed he could not remember the incident as he was drunk at the time.
“I had never consumed alcohol in my life and on that day I drank several kinds, the names of which I don’t even know. I got drunk and can’t remember what happened,” MM told judges.
Prosecutors charged him with sexual assault and with committing an indecent act in public.
Records show that on October 12 this year a policeman at the Deira City Centre mall noticed M M walking in circles in the women’s clothes section of a store.
“I called the surveillance camera section and asked them to direct cameras on this man, when they did M M was seen touching women’s behinds and then touching himself,” said 48-year-old policeman M S.
M S told security guards to restrain M M until he arrived to arrest him.
“We arrested him and referred him to Al Muraqqabat police station along with a copy of the camera footage,” said M S.
A verdict is expected on December 15.
