An Ajman fire chief sent out a safety warning after emergency services responded to a house blaze on Sunday.
Brig Gen Mohammed Jumeirah, deputy director of Ajman Civil Defence, urged the public to ensure electrical wiring and extension cords were in full working order at home and that fire alarms and smoke detectors installed.
The plea came after civil defence officers tackled a fire in an extended part of a property in the Mesairef disrict of the emirate.
No injuries were reported but the fire caused significant damage.
“The team managed to bring the fire, which broke out in one of the house extensions, under control and prevent it for spreading to the rest of the house,” Brig Gen Jumeirah said.
He urged families to check electrical wiring and extension cords, maintain them periodically and install fire alarms and smoke detectors linked directly to the civil defence operation room.
