Rumours that drugs masked as sweets are on sale in UAE quashed by police

Sharjah Police say drugs such as the synthetic cannabis Spice are not being sold in sweet wrappers in the UAE and that people should not spread such rumours on social media.

SHARJAH // Police have quashed rumours that the synthetic cannabis Spice and other drugs are being sold in sweets wrappers.

Rumours were circulating on social media that packets of drugs, which have been seen in other regional countries, are on sale in the UAE.

Col Mohammed Bayat, director of police operations in Sharjah, said it was dangerous to circulate such rumours without making sure the information was accurate.

“We urge residents, parents and educational institutions to report any incident of confiscating these substances to police for legal action,” Col Bayat said.

Police have also warned young people that they could be punished under the anti-narcotics laws if they fell for gimmicks offered by drug dealers.
