Keeping your mother happy can get you into heaven, worshippers will be told Friday.

The sermon will underline the importance Islam places on seeking the approval of parents, and specifically mothers.

"While we are instructed to obey both parents, Islam gives a special status to mothers, and specified two thirds of the obedience to her," the sermon says. "That is due to her role in stabilising the home ... she is the one who creates men."

The Prophet Mohammed once instructed a man to stay by his mother's side and serve her. He told the man that paradise was at her feet.

"And We have enjoined upon man concerning his parents. His mother beareth him in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years. Give thanks unto Me and unto thy parents," says the Quran.

In turn, parents should speak gently to their children and not turn the home into a battlefield of disagreement.

Men should be gentle with their wives and respect them, and wives should do the same, adds the sermon.
