SHARJAH // Rescue teams are continuing their search for two sailors missing from a ship that sank in rough weather on Saturday.

Sharjah Coast Guard and the Police Air Wing rescued five crewmen from the stricken ship, while the bodies of three others were recovered from the sea. Two other sailors were also pulled from the water.

“Teams are still searching for two more from the crew,” said Brig Saif Al Nadas, director of community police in Sharjah

The rescued sailors were taken to Khalifah hospital where they were treated for minor injuries.

The ship was carrying petroleum and had a crew of 12 men from India.

“According to preliminary investigation, the ship was in international waters bound to a port here when rough winds dragged the ship towards the Al Hamriya where it hit the breakwater structure and sank,” said Brig Al Nadas.

Five cargo ships ran aground in Sharjah and Umm Al Quwain over the weekend.
