DUBAI // Ten reformed drug addicts are to perform the Haj with support from the Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation (AMAF).

The Dubai-based foundation has allocated Dh200,000 to help them complete the pilgrimage.

"AMAF has pledged to cover all expenses of this trip to enable the reformed beneficiaries to perform the Haj this year and encourage them to start a new life," said Ahmed Bu Shehab, director of the institutional support department.

The foundation worked with Dubai Police on the initiative. Col Khaled Saleh Al Kuwari, director of the General Department of Anti-Narcotics, said: "We are conscious that the potential of such individuals must not be wasted."
