Prize film to open Arab art museum

The award-winning Arab documentary Teta, Alf Marra (Grandma, A Thousand Times), a collaboration between the Emirati, Qatari and Lebanese film industries, will be featured next week at the opening of a museum in Qatar.

The award-winning Arab documentary Teta, Alf Marra (Grandma, A Thousand Times) will be featured next week at the opening of a museum in Qatar.

The collaborative effort by the Emirati, Qatari and Lebanese film industries will be shown at Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art on December 30 in Doha.

The documentary is the first to be completed by the Abu Dhabi-based Veritas Films, a partner of twofour54.

It won two awards at the Doha Tribeca Film Festival in October, the audience award for best documentary and the jury special mention prize for the filmmaker, Mahmoud Kaabour.

Teta, Alf Marra commemorates Kaabour's grandmother and her life experiences.

Mathaf is the first institution of its kind in the region and aims to foster creativity, promote dialogue and inspire new ideas about modern and contemporary Arab art.

"The invitation to screen at Mathaf acknowledges our film as a work of high art," said Kaabour, the film's creator and founder of Veritas. "We are thrilled that our film, which was made by the collaboration of various Arab countries, will open the most anticipated pan-Arab museum to date."

Eva Star Sayre, the film's executive producer, said: "Our performance at Doha Tribeca, and on the international festival circuit, demonstrates that content generated in the Arab world can have wide international appeal.

The date of the UAE premiere of Teta, Alf Marra is expected to be announced in January.
