Policemen honoured for on-duty excellence

DUBAI // Police who caught a masked, knife-wielding man – who took a woman hostage before stealing money from her company – are to be rewarded for their actions.

Syrian M A caused the victim superficial wounds before dropping her in the street after he had fled the premises.

Within 50 minutes and after a car chase, police arrested the man when his car collided with a police patrol vehicle.

As a reward from Sheikh Saif bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Maj Gen Khamis Al Muzeina, chief of Dubai Police, presented several officers at Al Rashidiya and Al Qusais stations with a professional excellence medal, as well as a financial reward for their dedication in the line of duty.

The police command centre received a call from an American reporting the armed robbery, which began at 1.55pm. The man stole an amount of money and threatened other employees not to approach him until he reached his car, while he held the woman.

Upon receiving the report, security and CID patrols rushed to the scene and the vehicle information and a description of the culprit were sent out to all patrols.

The Syrian was driving a stolen car when police caught him.
