DUBAI // A police officer raped a 13-year-old girl in the back seat of his car, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.
Emirati AS, 23, raped Emirati schoolgirl RA, on August 13, 2013, prosecutors said. The pair had been in a romantic relationship for a year after meeting online and exchanging numbers.
On the day of the incident, RA left her aunt’s house in Al Barsha at 2am to go for drive with AS. She told prosecutors AS parked in a dark area where they kissed in the front seat before he requested they get in the back, where he raped her.
RA said she called the man the next day and asked that he propose to her. AS said he could not because he had financial problems.
According to the victim, AS then ignored her phone calls. She told prosecutors that she did not inform her parents of the incident and only told her aunt, Emirati HH, 41, who reported the incident to police.
Forensic reports found no conclusive evidence that sexual activity had occurred, nor did it rule it out.
AS did not appear in court to enter a plea. The next hearing is set for April 29.
