DUBAI// A British real estate agent forged his prescription for a controlled drug to increase his dose, Dubai Criminal Court was told.

“I only changed it from 150 grams to 300g because I take 600g daily for my medication,” the 25-year-old defendant said.

His lawyer told judges she would provide the court with a copy of an older prescription for the drug Lyrica (pregabalin) but for 450g not 150g.

The incident happened on February 15 this year. The defendant was charged with forgery and use of forged documents as well as attempting to illegally take the 300g dose of the drug.

A Pakistani doctor, 63, said the defendant told him he suffers pain and had been receiving treatment in his home country for a neurological disease.

“He showed me a picture of the medicine he was given in Britain then, after checking his condition, I gave him the same medicine but with a smaller dose,” the doctor said.

Shortly after the patient left, the doctor said he received a call from a pharmacist asking about the dose he had prescribed.

“It turned out he had changed it on the paper, but on the system it was still 150g,” said the doctor, who called police.

The next hearing will be July 30.
