DUBAI // Passengers who lost luggage in the evacuated Emirates flight that crash-landed at Dubai International Airport last week are in line to receive financial payouts in compensation from the airline.
All 300 passengers aboard EK521 escaped from the aircraft shortly after crash landing, with 13 suffering injuries.
The Boeing 777-300 arriving from Trivandrum International Airport in Thiruvananthapuram, India burst into flames moments later.
Those who lost luggage, documents and other possessions in the incident have since been offered compensation, although the airline would not confirm how much the settlement would be. Emirates did confirm it would be refunding the cost of tickets for all passengers.
“We remain in contact with the passengers and can confirm that Emirates has offered financial assistance to meet their immediate needs,” a spokesman said.
“This includes support for their lost baggage items, as access to the aircraft is still highly restricted while investigations are under way, as well as medical expenses and other incidental expenditures.
“We’re committed to extending every possible support to our affected customers. We will review all claims.”
An investigation led by the General Civil Aviation Authority, supported by aircraft manufacturer Boeing and engine maker Rolls Royce, is under way and is expected to take up to a year to conclude.
