DUBAI // Selling off the internal components of police armoured vehicles proved to be an unlikely attraction at an open auction on Wednesday.
The in-demand spare parts taken from a fleet of decommissioned armoured vehicles owned by Dubai Police fetched more than Dh100,000 as they went under the hammer.
Outer shells of nine, steel grey vehicles were not for sale, however, and remain at the police vehicle compound off Al Wasl Road.
About 30 bidders were hoping to snap up a deal for the engines and internal parts removed from the police vehicles.
People arrived at the General Department of Protective Security and Emergency to begin the bidding process at 11am.
Pakistani Ghulam Mohyuddin Sardar Khan, from Hanif Used Equipment, was the auction winner and he said he had picked up the metal for a bargain price of Dh101,000.
"The metal has been bought for scrap and will be sold," he said.
"I am a scrap metal dealer in Abu Dhabi so it has interested me. Some of it can be used in engines but it depends on how much of it is in working order. I don't know yet but I will have to check it all.
"I was very happy with the price. I will collect it and take it back to my company in Abu Dhabi for resale."
