DUBAI // A married couple are in court charged with insulting each other after their son witnessed them fighting.

Dubai Criminal Court was told that the Dominican husband, 44, physically assaulted his wife and, when she tried to call police, he threatened to kill her.

The husband is charged with issuing threats to kill and with physical assault, while both the man and his wife, who is also from the Dominican Republic, are charged with insulting each other.

The incidents happened between June 20 and 23 but the woman, 41, called the ports police station on June 28.

She said her husband beat her up and insulted her using foul language. “He then told me he will kill me if I told police about him beating me up,” said the housewife.

Their 10-year-old son witnessed the incident and told prosecutors that he heard his father saying he would go to her mother’s family and kill them after killing her.

“Then I heard my mother’s screams and a loud bang,” said the boy.

In court on Sunday, the woman was not read the charges against her, while the husband failed to show up.

A verdict will be issued on January 17.
