A man and a teenager jailed for 15 years after raping a woman at knifepoint and threatening to kill her have lost a bid to have their sentences reduced.
They were part of a gang of seven males - including four teenagers - who attacked the victim, 41, from Kenya, and her work colleague near to her home in Al Quoz in March, 2016.
The victim tried to flee but was restrained and taken to a nearby sandy area, where an Emirati man, 22 and a 19-year-old, who doesn't hold identification documents, took turns raping her while their accomplices held her and her colleague at knifepoint.
"One was restraining and kissing me while his friends raped me, they told me they would kill me if I didn't shut up," she said.
The victim's colleague, a 23-year-old Kenyan security guard, told prosecutors that he was robbed by one of the men.
"One was holding the knife and told me he would stab me, while another stole money from my pocket and their friends raped my colleague," he said.
The men fled the scene after the attack and the woman called police immediately, who arrived within 30 minutes.
"They told us about the rape and the knife. We looked around and found the knife tossed behind," said an Emirati officer.
The men were arrested on the same day after their descriptions were given to police by the victim.
Dubai Criminal and Appeal Courts convicted the pair of rape, issuing death threats and consuming alcohol, while a third Pakistani defendant, 22, was sentenced to 10 years in jail to be followed by deportation for attempted rape, issuing death threats and consuming alcohol.
Prosecutors also appealed, seeking a harsher sentence, but lost.
