DUBAI // Two Pakistanis have each been jailed for 10 years after being caught in possession of more than seven kilograms of heroin and methamphetamine.

B K, 39, and J K, 49, denied the charge at Dubai Criminal Court in May, arguing that they did not know what they had been asked to carry.

Acting on a tip-off, Dubai Police arrested B K at his Al Raffa home on February 14.

B K told police that J K said he would pay Dh1,000 if he helped to transport the drugs from Abu Dhabi to Dubai.

He said they picked up the drugs in Mussaffah from a Pakistani.

“After we returned to Dubai, J K told me to keep the drugs in my home until he called me to give them to a truck driver, who would take them out of the country,” B K said.

J K was arrested at Sharjah International Airport while trying to leave the country.

Emirati policeman A L told prosecutors that while J K was being interrogated, the accused received two text messages from Pakistan with instructions on what to do with the drugs.

Police seized 6.4kg of heroin and 1.5kg of methamphetamine.

B K and J K were also each fined Dh50,000 and will be deported after serving their jail terms.
