Pair jailed for shoplifting at Dubai Outlet Mall

DUBAI // Two shoplifters who stole shoes and shirts from an Adidas shop after removing magnetic security tags have been sentenced to two years in jail.

A 30-year-old Moroccan confessed to a charge of theft but his countryman, 29, was not present in the Dubai Criminal Court to enter a plea.

The pair were caught on December 15 last year by employees at the shop in Dubai Outlet Mall.

“We noticed a stock shortage after carrying out an inventory therefore we checked the surveillance cameras and saw as the men stole some shoes and left,” said the Emirati shop manager, 32.

“Then on December 15 we saw the same men from coming back to the shop,”

He added that one of the men was caught after he removed the tags from some items and tried to leave without paying.

“He offered to pay for them but we called police,” said the manager.

Both men will be deported after serving their jail terms.
