A truck crashed into a footbridge on one of Ajman's major roads on Sunday.

Lt Col Saif Al Falasi, deputy director of traffic and patrols, said the truck was overloaded when it crashed into and damaged the bridge on Sheikh Zayed Road.

“The truck was on the road carrying construction material and a crane, as well as other equipment,” he said.

Lt Col Al Falasi said the driver, a 27-year-old man of Asian descent, had not adhered to height restrictions set for trucks travelling on the road.

He said no pedestrians were using the bridge at the time and urged all loading companies to abide by the height and weight limits sets for transporting materials.

“If you do not comply to rules, items may fall off the vehicle and cause death or injury to others, for your own and other’s safety, please bide by rules,” he said.
