DUBAI // More than 100 photographs of beaming residents have been posted on Instagram and Twitter as part of a contest in support of the Expo 2020 bid.
The Dubai Culture & Arts Authority has received more than 160 images of people holding up the bid logo at tourist sites in countries such as Malaysia, Italy, France, Denmark and the UK, as well as in the UAE.
The winner of the contest will be announced on July 11 and get a specially engraved iPad Mini.
Among the photos posted was one of a person in a gondola in Venice with a cut-out of the Expo 2020 logo. Another had the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur as its backdrop. Others showed the logo in front of the Burj Khalifa or in the desert.
The photography competition is open to citizens and residents.
Entries can be sent on Twitter and Instagram to @dubaiculture with the #DCDubaiExpo2020 hashtag. Photos can also be emailed to supportexpo2020@dubaiculture.ae.
Many businesses and other organisations back the bid.
"Dubai is a cosmopolitan city that supports an environment that is flexible for entrepreneurs and encourages investment as well as nurtures tolerance and harmony," said Mohammed Abdullah Al Jarman, the general manager of Emirates Transport.

Farage on Muslim Brotherhood
Nigel Farage told Reform's annual conference that the party will proscribe the Muslim Brotherhood if he becomes Prime Minister.
"We will stop dangerous organisations with links to terrorism operating in our country," he said. "Quite why we've been so gutless about this – both Labour and Conservative – I don't know.
“All across the Middle East, countries have banned and proscribed the Muslim Brotherhood as a dangerous organisation. We will do the very same.”
It is 10 years since a ground-breaking report into the Muslim Brotherhood by Sir John Jenkins.
Among the former diplomat's findings was an assessment that “the use of extreme violence in the pursuit of the perfect Islamic society” has “never been institutionally disowned” by the movement.
The prime minister at the time, David Cameron, who commissioned the report, said membership or association with the Muslim Brotherhood was a "possible indicator of extremism" but it would not be banned.
