A 42-year-old Asian man was killed and two were severely injured in a car accident on Al Ghail Road in Ras Al Khaimah on Thursday.

The accident occurred when a taxi driver tried to overtake a truck on a two-way road.

RAK Police were called to the accident site on Thursday evening and an ambulance was sent immediately.

“Initial investigations showed that the taxi driver tried to overtake a truck and that forced him to speed and hit the truck from the back,” said Col Ahmed Al Naqbi, director of the traffic and patrols department at RAK Police.

“He lost control over the steering wheel due to the impact which made the vehicle veer off the road and overturn several times," Col Al Naqbi said.

One of the Asian passengers died due to his severe injuries, while the taxi driver and the other passenger, both of the same nationality, sustained severe injuries and were transferred to hospital for treatment.

The case has been referred to prosecutors for legal action.

Col Al Naqbi stressed the importance of adhering to traffic rules and speed limits, and avoid overtaking from a prohibited place.

Seven Emirati teenagers were injured on the same road last Friday. Police said the eldest of the seven was driving the vehicle without a licence and lost control of the car after attempting to overtake a truck on a two-way road.
