Mentally ill man who killed mother and kept body at his flat is jailed for two years

In a previous hearing the defendant said his mother had returned from the dead to drop all charges against him.

SHARJAH // A man suffering from mental health problems, who slit his mother’s throat and kept her body in his flat for 10 days, has been sentenced to two years in jail.

Sharjah Criminal Court received a medical report on the 29-year-old’s mental condition, which confirmed he suffers from psychosis.

In a previous hearing he said his mother had returned from the dead to drop all charges against him.

Police found the body of the Danish mother, 50, at the defendant’s flat after they arrested him on June 7 last year for attacking an Iranian supermarket worker with a knife.

He admitted to killing his mother, claiming Allah ordered him to do so because she was performing witchcraft.

He was later referred to Al Amal Psychiatric Hospital in Dubai for an evaluation.
