DUBAI // Four men stole jewellery worth Dh500,000 from a villa after scaling the wall and breaking into the house, a court has heard.

The three Sri Lankans and a Pakistani, whose ages were between 25 and 47, broke into the home in Al Twar in September 2015 while the Emirati owners were abroad.

A driver who worked for the family saw that the back door was open and called his employer.

“I came back to the country the following day and saw that the room was messed up and the door was broken,” said the homeowner, 39. “They stole a diamond necklace and a gold one, and a complete diamond set.”

Two of the men, a Sri Lankan and the Pakistani, appeared at Dubai Criminal Court charged with burglary, to which they pleaded not guilty.

The two other Sri Lankans were charged in their absence.

A verdict is expected on April 12.
