DUBAI // Ten Pakistanis were arrested at a farm in a remote area of Dubai where police discovered more than 1,000 marijuana plants.

Dubai Criminal Court heard how police found 7,615 kilograms of the drug at the farm in Al Faqa, close to the border with Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.

“We were tipped off about one of the defendants and after investigations we found out about the farm, obtained arrest warrants then apprehended all at the farm,” a police major from the anti-narcotics department said.

He said that dried marijuana and marijuana compressed into plates was also found along with the plants and farming tools.

“One of the defendants confessed to us that he used to prepare the drugs for people who would come to the farm to consume it,” the major said.

Another police officer told the court the plants were situated in the middle of the farm, surrounded by other types of plants to hide them.

One of the defendants, aged 50, is additionally accused of consuming morphine while seven others are also charged with consuming marijuana.

None of the 10 men, aged between 20 and 50, entered a plea to charges of growing and possessing marijuana to sell.

A verdict is expected on November 29.
