DUBAI // A man’s two wives attacked and insulted each other over claims that he had an affair with his second wife before they were married, a court has heard.
The Jordanian first wife, W M, 40, and second wife R T, 41, a Filipina, were charged with assault and using foul language. The first wife was also charged with insulting her husband and fellow Jordanian, J M, and damaging his car by breaking its lights.
The Jordanian said that on March 4, her husband had taken their four children away without telling her.
The Filipina told prosecutors that the first wife went to her house in Discovery Gardens, where she was with her husband, son and her husband’s daughter from his first wife.
“The door bell rang and it was W M,” she said. “My husband asked me to go inside and, after five minutes, I went in and found W M and her daughter gone, but my husband followed them after telling me he suspected she would damage his car.
The Filipina said she followed her husband to the car park where the Jordanian woman insulted and assaulted her.
“She pulled my hair and said I was a b----,” she said, adding that it was not the first time she had been assaulted by the first wife.
The husband said the first wife was holding a stick and that she insulted and assaulted his second wife before he called police.
The Jordanian admitted that she pulled the Filipina’s hair but said she did not insult her.
“I have been married to J M for 15 years and have four children with him,” she said.
“In 2009 I knew he was having an affair with R T and that he had to marry her because she became pregnant to him.”
The Jordanian said she came to live with him in the UAE in 2012, and ever since there had been problems because he was not being fair with her.
She said her husband usually took their children on his day off but on March 4 he took them without telling her. When she called to ask about them she said the husband hung up.
“When I went to his place, he pushed me and hit me on my face, then RT was behind him so I felt angry and pulled her from her hair,” said the first wife. “She told me I was a b---- in front of my son.”
The husband told the Dubai Court of Misdemeanours that he would try to settle the problem between his two wives.
The court sentenced each wife to a one month in jail but suspended the sentence for three years.
The sentence will be activated if the two are caught committing the same offence again.
