AJMAN// An Asian man arrested after breaking the glass of six parked cars at Ajman Police headquarters did so because he wanted to be deported, officers claim.
The 19-year-old defendant used a stone to break the glass of a Kia Rio, two Nissan Patrols, two Lexus and a Chevrolet Camaro. The vehicles are used by Ajman Police staff and customers.
Police were alerted to the incident by car washers, working in the nearby parking lot.
“Policemen instantly moved to the incident scene and arrested the defendant while he was there and stopped him,” said Colonel Abdulaziz Al Shamsi, director of police operations at Ajman Police.
“When he was asked about the reason of what he did, he said that he did it intentionally to be arrested by police and deported to his homeland.”
An initial investigation by police revealed the man was an electrician working in a maintenance shop in the emirate, and had been in the country for just over a month.
The accused’s employer said the man was often absent from work, and displayed signs he was suffering from a mental disorder.
The defendant was transfered to the public prosecution and to a psychologist to diagnose his mental state.
