DUBAI// Two workers assaulted their colleague with a metal bar after he reported them for bootlegging, the Dubai Criminal Court heard on Wednesday morning.
“I’m not guilty,” said Indian JR, 54, while his compatriot MN, 23, failed to show up in court to face a charge of assaulting Bangladeshi AA, 32.
Records show that the victim discovered his colleagues had been making and selling illegal alcohol and informed his company’s management which reported the matter to police and the men were arrested.
“They were released on bail and on February 4 this year I was taken by surprise as I walked out of the company’s accommodation when both men attacked me with a metal bar,” said the victim.
He said that JR and MN stopped the assault and fled when a Pakistani man spotted what was happening and ran to help AA.
“The Pakistani man called police who arrived along with an ambulance,” said AA, who was left with a permanent disability as he lost full mobility in one of his fingers on his left hand.
MN was not present in court to enter a plea and the next hearing will be on August 16 to summon him.
