DUBAI // A Chinese man tried to use his friend’s medical test results to obtain a residency visa, Dubai Criminal Court heard.

On September 17, the defendant and his friend, who are both 31 and are of similar appearance, carried out the offence, prosecutors said.

The man was charged with using an official document belonging to another while the friend was charged with aiding and abetting, charges that both denied.

An employee at the medical fitness centre in Al Qusais said a colleague spotted a slight difference between the applicant and his picture on the application.

“He told me then just to double check. We examined him again and found that he suffers from hepatitis, then we knew his friend was waiting forhim outside, so we got him and checked him and found that he was medically fit and that they were trying to manipulate the results,” said the 37-year-old Iranian employee.

A verdict is expected on December 15.
