DUBAI // A Saudi Arabian has claimed that he had almost 200 kilograms of amphetamine tablets for his own personal use.
Dubai Criminal Court heard that police had been tipped off about the 37-year-old selling drugs and on January 30 he was arrested at his home in Al Muwaihat, Ajman.
He is charged with possessing 186.8kg of drugs to sell, which he has denied, and with using drugs, to which he pleaded guilty.
An Emirati captain at Dubai Police’s anti-narcotics department said he was among the arrest team, which also included Ajman Police officers.
“We saw him get out of his house and take a taxi. We stopped the cab and apprehended him and we found amphetamine tablets in his left pocket,” the captain said.
He said that the Saudi admitted having more drugs at his home and in his car.
“We opened the room and found travel bags. Once opened, we saw hundreds of thousands of amphetamine tablets,” the captain said. Officers also found scales and plastic bags used to weigh and pack the drugs.
Police said the defendant confessed to picking up the drugs from a man in Al Rigga in Dubai after a call from the supplier in Saudi.
But in court on Sunday he denied being a drug dealer.
The next hearing is scheduled for May 14.
