RAK // An Arab man who drove into a coastal barrier and sunk his car into the sea has been rescued.
The man, identified by Ras Al Khaimah Police as A A A, rammed his 4x4 into the barrier and then the vehicle slid into the water.
An Asian man at the scene tried to pull the Arab from the vehicle but it was emergency-response teams who eventually got him out of the water at Al Mawrid beach.
Lieutenant Colonel Majid bin Salem Al Qassimi, head of ambulance and maritime rescue at RAK Police, said the man had “medium to severe” injuries.
He was taken to hospital and the vehicle removed from the water.
Lt Col Al Qassimi urged members of the public to be cautious while driving next to the coastline and that motorists should switch off engines if they stop near beaches or cliffs.
