DUBAI // A woman dressed in a niqab was allegedly molested while shopping in a supermarket.

A 64-year-old man from Sudan appeared at Dubai Criminal Court accused of touching the woman’s head and bottom at the Carrefour supermarket in the Al Ghurair Center in Al Muraqqabat.

He denied a sex assault charge.

The victim said that on February 25 this year she was standing near the seafood section when the man began playing with her daughter.

“He asked about my nationality then touched my head and said I was like his sister,” the woman said, adding that the man then came closer to her and touched her bottom before asking her to read him the names of some fish.

“He told me he couldn’t see well so asked if I would read for him. He drew closer and touched me again and that’s why I called the police because I felt it was intentional,” said the woman.

A policeman told the court that the man admitted to touching the woman’s behind, but only by mistake.

The next hearing will be on May 3.
