A man died after being hit by a car while crossing the road in Ras Al Khaimah on Tuesday night.

Police said the Asian man, 28, was crossing Sheikh Mohammed Bin Salam Road – also known locally as Al Wakalat road – from an non-designated area when he was struck by the vehicle, driven by a 40-year-old Emirati.

The accident was reported to police at 10.15pm. They dispatched patrols and an ambulance to the scene but the man died instantly, said Brig Ahmad Al Naqbi, director of Traffic and Patrols Department at RAK Police.

The body was taken to hospital and will be handed over to his family for burial.

Traffic authorities carried out an investigation and referred the case to prosecutors for legal action.

Brig Al Naqbi called on pedestrians to use designated crossing areas and ensure the road is clear before crossing.

He reiterated that drivers should be focused on the road, must follow traffic rules and adhere to speed limits.
