DUBAI // A shop manager has been jailed for groping a woman as she was getting into her car at Ibn Battuta Mall.
On November 8 last year, the Austrian woman, 40, was at the mall when she was approached by the Turkish man, 48, who offered to carry her bags.
“I said no to him then headed to my car, and as I was loading the items he came to me again and asked if I wanted to go out with him,” said the housewife, who told him she was married and asked him to leave.
“The moment I was getting into the car he groped me, so I screamed at him and he fled,” said the woman.
She told her husband what had happened and was able to identify the man after checking security cameras at the mall. She then reported him to police.
He was arrested and charged with sexual assault.
He denied the charge in court and said he only offered to help carry her bags, which he did with every woman.
Dubai Criminal Court sentenced him to three months in prison, after which he will be deported.
