ABU DHABI // A man who attacked his wife with a cleaver in Dalma Mall for cheating on him will spend five years in prison, the Criminal Court has ruled.
The 60-year-old Pakistani man was told by a security guard at the mall that his wife, from the Philippines, was cheating on him with another security guard, The guard proved it by showing him obscene photos and text messages between them.
“The man lost his temper and was furious with jealousy,” explained his defence attorney Hadeya Al Hammadi.
“So he waited for her in Dalma Mall and attacked her with a cleaver on her neck and shoulder.”
The woman was severely injured and required surgical treatment.
However, she pardoned him at the Criminal Court and withdrew her claims and compensation requests against him.
He denied intending to kill her, saying he was only furious with her betrayal and attacked her out of rage.
He was sentenced to five years in prison.
