Man drowns at UAQ hotel pool

Relatives and friends swimming with a Chinese man, 25, did not realise he was in danger.

UMM AL QUWAIN // A 25-year-old Chinese man has drowned at a hotel pool.

Police said he was swimming with relatives and friends at 12.30am on Saturday. The people he was with failed to notice he was in trouble.

First Lieutenant Ahmed Rashid Al Ghawi, head of the criminal investigation section at Al Madina Police Station, said an emergency call was received from the hotel and an ambulance and police were dispatched. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The officer said the public should be careful when swimming and urged people who cannot swim to wear a life jacket and avoid swimming in deep water.
