Man dressed in abaya arrested by Sharjah police

SHARJAH // Police have arrested an Indian man accused of dressing in an abaya to enter a park on ladies day.

Officers were notified after women using the park, which was open to women and families only on the day, became suspicious of the man, identified as RSR, who was wearing an abaya and a veil to cover his face.

After he was arrested, officers discovered the man did not have a visa and had been living in the country illegally.

According to a police spokesman the suspect was arrested for "violating the cultural and religious norms of the emirate".

The case has been handed to the Sharjah public prosecution.
