DUBAI // A jobless man was caught by farm workers trying to steal sheep from a farm in Al Lihbab area, the Dubai Criminal Court heard on Wednesday.

Prosecutors said that on March 4 this year, Pakistani KB, and two others, used a large scissors to cut a hole in the farm’s fence then snuck into the sheep shed.

The defendant and his accomplices were caught by farm’s workers.

BK is charged with attempted burglary and causing Dh840 worth of damage to the farm, which he denied in court on Wednesday.

Indian sheep herder PR, 35, testified that his countryman RK, 29, who also works at the farm, called him at nearly 1am on the day of the incident and told him he spotted a number of men near the fence.

“I went to him then we both headed to where he saw them and we saw the opening they made in the fence,” said PR.

The sheep herders said in records that they managed to corner the defendant and his accomplices but only succeeded in restraining KB, while the others escaped.

Policeman KA, 40 said they received a report about a burglary taking place at the farm of Emirati MA. “One was arrested while two escaped, we were told by the farm workers who made the arrest,” testified KA.

Police said that KB was known for stealing sheep and was already wanted for a previous incident, but had been on the run and was arrested on September 15 this year.

The next hearing will be on January 13.
