Man arrested on suspicion of practising witchcraft in Ajman

An undercover police officer contacted the man and arranged to be treated with witchcraft in exchange for Dh40,000.

AJMAN// An Arab man has been arrested on suspicion of practising witchcraft.

“We received reports from several people about the suspect who had defrauded them and took their money. We formed a team to investigate,” said Col Abdullah Saif Al Matrooshi, director of criminal investigation department at Ajman Police.

An undercover officer contacted the man and arranged to be treated with witchcraft in exchange for Dh40,000.

“The place was raided and the suspect was arrested,” said Col Al Matrooshi,

“He was wearing a uniform for surgical operations and had a large bottle containing water mixed with tree leaves that he sprayed in the corners of patients’ houses. He also had five small bottles containing oil and a gold pendant in the shape of heart, which he would put in the car of a patient,” he said.

The man’s case was transferred to public prosecution.

Col Al Matrooshi urged members of the public not to fall foul of people claiming to be sorcerers and inform police about any scam immediately.
