ABU DHABI // A Kuwaiti politician accused of insulting UAE leadership failed to appear in court on Sunday.

In his absence, the Federal Supreme Court played a video in which prosecutors say Mubarak Al Duwailah insulted the country’s leaders.

Al Duwailah has denied the accusations that last December he insulted Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, on Kuwait’s official channel for parliament, Al Majlis TV.

Al Duwailah said Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed had chosen to take a “personal and aggressive stance against the Brotherhood”.

He also said Sheikh Mohammed was “hostile towards the Sunni doctrine, which is a pretext for Sunni extremists to threaten his life”.

A verdict will be announced on November 23.
