Jail for worker who broke colleague's arm in ladder dispute

A worker who broke his colleague's arm following a row over a ladder has been sentenced to three months in prison.

The accused, 30, from Bangladesh, picked up a ladder on April 20 last year that did not belong to him at a construction site in Jumeirah, Dubai.

The owner, 34, said he asked for it to be returned, but was instead insulted by the accused. 

The two then argued and the plaintiff said the accused provoked him into slapping him.

"I felt scared that he would hurt me because I slapped him, so I ran away but he chased me with two other men," he said. 

The men caught him and assaulted him, then the defendant grabbed a metal bar and struck him on his left arm, which broke.

He was apprehended later the same day.

A medical report said that the victim was left with a five per cent permanent disability due to the assault.

The court found the man guilty of a physical assault charge and sentenced him to three months in prison, followed by deportation.
