Iranian A N, 32, had been involved in a civil court case with M G, 28, over the loan.

M G said in a police report: “While attending a hearing at in court on the November 30 last year, A N,32 threatened to kill me if I didn’t pay him back the money I owed him.”

The victim’s friend, American P P, 49, claimed he was a witness to the death threats, saying A N approached them as soon as the court adjourned.

“A N was sitting in the back seat and when we left the courtroom he came to us and threatened to kill us,” he said.

“I was afraid so I asked M G to call the police. we stayed put until the police arrived and apprehended A N.”

He alleged that A N had threatened them before in Dubai Mall in December 2012.

“MG, his family and I had just finished dinner and were leaving the mall when the defendant approached us and grabbed MG’s hand and puled him aside,” he said.

“I followed them and asked A N why did he grab M G. He answered that M G owed him Dh300,000 and threatened that if he doesn’t pay him back he will file charges, bribe witnesses to testify against the defendant and kill him,” said P P.

The defendant denied the charges and the next hearing will be held on March 5.
