ABU DHABI // Six men scammed a real estate investor out of Dh700,000 by using a fake rental contract for a villa complex, the Criminal Court heard on Monday.

The investor said an agent guided him to the first defendant AM, an Emirati, saying he owns a compound of villas in Khalifa City A he wanted to offer for rent.

He met them at the house, where one of the defendants pretended to be the son of AM.

He was asked to pay in cash immediately and paid them Dh685,000 plus Dh15,000 as commission.

The plaintiff later discovered that the deal was a scam and tried unsuccessfully to resolve the situation with the defendants before taking the matter to court.

The case was adjourned to October 13 to listen to witnesses.
