DUBAI // A husband reported his wife to police for having an affair after her brother tipped him off about it, Dubai Court of Misdemeanours has heard.

Emirati F A, 34, said that two years after getting married in 2012, he started having domestic problems and his wife took their two-year-old daughter and moved to her family’s home.

“I was later told by her brother that she left the house when their mother was in UK and would sometimes be absent for two days,” said F A.

He started following his wife after he became suspicious that she was having an affair. On September 14 last year, he saw her leaving work in the company of a man he did not know.

“They went to a restaurant at nearly 3.30pm, had lunch then drove to a villa in Mirdif,” said F A.

He stated in records that six days later he followed his wife to the Grand Hyatt hotel, where she met her alleged lover.

“They met at the reception, he kissed and hugged her and the two walked on holding hands,” said the husband.

On October 7 last year, he again followed her, to Wafi Mall, at 4pm, after which she left and went with the man to the villa in Mirdif, where they stayed until 7pm.

“I called police, who came and found my wife and the man inside the villa,” said F A.

His wife, M A, and H A, 33, both Emiratis, were charged with having consensual sex outside of wedlock, which they denied in court.

“I met her in a jewellery exhibition and we discussed a business partnership in which I would market her products in Fujairah,” said H A.

He often met her to get the products, he said, but on the date of the arrests, H A said that M A was unable to deliver the products because she was at a family gathering in Mirdif.

“Therefore, I went to her location in Mirdif and she came to my cousin’s villa. We stood at the doorstep at about 11.30pm but, five minutes later, policemen came,” said H A.

H A denied the husband’s accusations and, when confronted about his DNA traces on tissues and blankets inside the villa, he said: “I am a single man and often have intimate dreams.”

He added that he was a military man who would never break the law.

The wife denied the allegations and said her relationship with H A was purely business and that her husband had told her during their last confrontation at their marital home that they were now divorced.

She added that it was a “verbal” divorce and was not made official.

“He then told my brothers that he wouldn’t officially divorce me until I give him back the money he spent on our wedding,” said M A.

Despite the crime lab confirming that the wife had recently had sexual intercourse, she denied being intimate with anyone since she left her husband.

A verdict is expected on October 29.
