UAE Friday sermon: there is no greater act than dutifulness towards a mother

A good mother is a wise educator who sets a positive example for her children and instils good manners and noble values in them, mosque-goers will be told on Friday.
A mother should encourage her children to perform the most righteous of deeds which include being dutiful to parents, upholding ties of kinship and being hospitable towards guests, the sermon will say.
She should also uphold a friendly relationship with neighbours, respect elders, show mercy to young people, do good deeds that are in the best interest of people and follow the example of the pious.
The sermon will give the example of the mother of Imam Malik. As a young boy she would dress her son tell him, "Go to Rabiaa (a renowned scholar at that time), and study his manners before you take from his knowledge."
Mothers should not forget to focus on their children's emotional upbringing either. Their affection, love and sympathy towards their children should be clear, the sermon will say.
"She would also prefer them over herself. Such empathy and altruism would definitely influence the children and, ultimately, spread across the whole community."
Prophet Mohammed emphasized the merits of altruism. His wife Lady Ayesha once said "A poor woman came to me carrying her two daughters. I gave her three date-fruits. She gave a date to each of them and then she picked up one date-fruit and brought it to her mouth to eat, but her daughters asked her for that too. She then divided between them the date-fruit that she intended to eat. This (kind) treatment of her impressed me and I mentioned that to Messenger of Allah who said, 'Verily, Allah has assured Paradise for her because of (this act) of her, or He has rescued her from the Hell-Fire."
Islam generally elevates the status of the mother in many instances. Prophet Mohammed also once said: "The best of women is the one who has benefited her family."
The sermon will ask mosque-goers to respect their mothers and to reward them by treating them with kindness and recognising her deeds.
"Truly, there is no good deed that is greater than being dutiful to mother. It was narrated that Abdullah Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, said in this regard, "I have never known a good action that is closer to Allah, the Most Exalted, than dutifulness to a mother.""

Tips for job-seekers
  • Do not submit your application through the Easy Apply button on LinkedIn. Employers receive between 600 and 800 replies for each job advert on the platform. If you are the right fit for a job, connect to a relevant person in the company on LinkedIn and send them a direct message.
  • Make sure you are an exact fit for the job advertised. If you are an HR manager with five years’ experience in retail and the job requires a similar candidate with five years’ experience in consumer, you should apply. But if you have no experience in HR, do not apply for the job.
