ABU DHABI // An Emirati-Egyptian medical volunteer team has carried out 30 heart valve transplant operations in Egypt as part of a joint programme.
The Zayed Giving initiative announced it has partnered with Ain Shams University, Saudi German Hospital, the Dar Al Ber Society and the Arab Association for Humanitarian Work to provide the open-heart operations to needy Egyptians.
“The move is a continuation of the Emirati-Egyptian volunteer programme to treat heart disease patients, which, since its inception over the past years, has been able to provide treatment for half a million children and the elderly in Egypt, and perform more than 2,000 heart operations,” said Dr Adel Al Shamri, chief executive of the Zayed Giving Initiative.
Since its founding in 2003, the UAE charity has set up clinics and medical programmes in Arab and African countries.
