ABU DHABI // Victims of the Yemen conflict, including critically injured Yemenis and a Libyan family of eight, have been airlifted to the UAE to receive medical treatment.

The injured Yemenis were transferred to Al Mafraq Hospital and Al Ain hospital to receive medical care, according to the state news agency Wam.

The move comes in line with the directives of UAE President Sheikh Khalifa and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

Wam quoted a source who said the Yemenis were getting the medical care because of “the fraternal relations between the UAE and Yemeni people”.

The aid also falls under the humanitarian efforts to alleviate the suffering of the people of Yemen and improve their humanitarian conditions in the face of the Houthi insurgency.

The source said other stranded and injured people would also to be transported for treatment.

The UAE Humanitarian and Relief Programme provides food, medicine and medical supplies to improve the conditions and health of the Yemen population, in coordination and cooperation with regional and international humanitarian organisations.

The Libyan family had been stranded in Yemen after getting caught up in the conflict, and will be taken care of in the UAE until they can return to Libya. They were met at the airport by the First Secretary at Libyan Embassy, Izzuddin Abdul Mawla, and health officials.

Mr Mawla thanked Sheikh Khalifa, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed for their continued support. He said the people of Libya would not forget the noble humanitarian gesture.
