ABU DHABI // An award to encourage development in the treatment of digestive diseases has been launched by Sheikha Fatima, Mother of the Nation.
The Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Award for Medical Excellence in Gastroenterology was announced on Thursday at the opening of Emirates Digestive Diseases Week, reported the state news agency, Wam.
The three-day event is being held under the patronage of Sheikha Fatima, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood.
Amid the UAE’s development in health care, “it is keen to attract expertise, and to provide medical institutions with all modern innovations ... such as those used in the digestive diseases”, Sheikha Fatima said, in a speech read by Dr Maitha Al Shamsi, Minister of State.
The Abu Dhabi conference was organised by the Emirates Digestive Diseases Group.
