Sharjah outlines how it will tackle non-communicable diseases

SHARJAH // Sheikha Jawaher Al Qasimi has launched the emirate’s declaration on non-communicable Diseases at the first global Non-Communicable Diseases Alliance Forum.

The declaration, which was approved by more than 230 health specialist and experts, will be applied to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and will have national and regional NCD alliances behind the commitment to accelerate action and increase accountability to prevent and reduce deaths, disability, stigma and discrimination caused by NCDs.

NCDs are medical conditions or diseases that are non-infectious or non-transmissible.

Sheikha Jawaher, the chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, said at the launch on Sunday that her efforts to combat NCDs around the world is an obligation and a humanitarian duty.

Katie Dain, an executive director at NCD Alliance UK, said: “The Sharjah declaration will provide the basis for the advocacy planning exercise.”
